Mix media exhibition and discussion
“From the Periphery” exhibition displays works done in the summer of 2008 in two workshops of the Art Interventions program, “The Return of the Gastarbajters” in Požarevac and “Sex in Transition” in Kucevo. In each workshop participated around 20 artists as well as international scholars, coming from Serbia, Germany, USA, Italy, Sudan, Austria, and more.
In both workshop the artists worked closely with the local communities and exhibited in public spaces.
Art Interventions is an interdisciplinary program that brings together local, national and international artists and scholars to disadvantage communities in order to identify socio-economical-political processes that are taboo in the community and find, through community participation, innovative ways to deal with them.

The Return of the Gastarbajters – discussion – Thursday 26.2. 2009 at 19:00
As part of the exhibition “From the Periphery”, we will hold a discussion on the subject of the phenomenon of Serbian guest workers in Europe and their temporary or permanent return to Serbia. in the discussion will participate the curator, selected artists, representatives of the guest workers and the local communities.

Sex in Transition – discussion – Tuesday 3.3. 2009 at 19:00
As part of the exhibition “From the Periphery”, we will hold a discussion on the subject of the change in gender relations following economical and political transition, especially on issues such as intimacy and individuality. In the discussion will participate the curator, selected artists and representatives of the local communities.

“Sono in pensione, serve da passatempo e contemporaneamente ci si leva.
Io c’avevo 40 piante di cavolo l’ho mangiato tutto! 120 porri ora c’e’ rimasto pochino, c’avevo un centinaio di finocchi. Ora deve vinire le fave, i piselli […] E’ robina che (se) uno ci sta dietro…si leva!
E’ un passatempo… che fare… io in casa non ci potrei stare, lavorare non mi fanno lavorare piu’ e allora tengo l’orto.
Che fo in casa…a dormire? sto fuori! ”
